Have you ever felt like you needed a lifeline tossed your way? To be honest, I bet we’ve all felt this way at one time or another.

The life preserver ring is commonly found at a swimming pool or beach setting. This donut-shaped ring has a throw line attached. The line is essential when coming to the aid of somebody in a dangerous situation. This life ring offers security in the rescue.

During the difficult days of your life, there is a choice. Are you going to look for a life preserver? Are you going to trust a loving God who keeps His promises or succumb to defeat and despair?

Believe me, I know life's battle is intense at times. I recently received disappointing news and found myself losing footage on the slippery path. The miry clay was unstable, and I was sliding into the pit of defeat. That’s a dangerous place to be! I cried out to God for help. This verse immediately came to mind: ”He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay, and He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.” Psalms 40:2 NASB1995. I reached my hand up high and asked Him to rescue me.

Let's look at the book of Joshua, chapter one in the Bible. Moses has died and Joshua, the son of Nun, who was Moses’ assistant, is now getting his direction from the Lord God. He is given the same promise as Moses.

The Lord’s Promise: “No man will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will be with you; I will not fail you or abandon you.” Joshua 1:5 (italics added) NLT 1996

Promise Reinforced: “Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 (italics added) NASB 1995

For You Today: Trusting God takes courage! When discouragement, or lack of confidence, tries to overwhelm you, remember to grab ahold of the life ring. Picture the attached lifeline, which is essential to rescue you, as your way of communication or prayer with the one who cares for you more than imaginable. Don’t listen to or respond to any lies — you are loved, you are valuable, and you will never be alone!

“God is our refuge and strength. A very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:10
