Testimony
Your story has significance.
We’ve all heard it — everyone has a story, right? Well, it's true. What's also true is that each of us has a unique story that goes with our specific life.
The story of Moses is fascinating! Before you roll your eyes and say, I’ve seen the movies and heard the Sunday school stories, take a deep breath and try to be open-minded. We’re going to focus on the mission of Moses and how his call to deliver Israel impacted his father-in-law, Jethro.
Granted the beginning of Moses’ life is headliner enough. But today we’ll fast forward past his birth, survival, adoption, retaliation, and then fleeing to escape death. Whew! Moses was shepherding Jethro’s flock in the area of Midian (modern-day eastern Saudi Arabia) when God spoke to him about rescuing the Israelites (his people) from slavery in Egypt. Moses was 80 years old when he went to Egypt. Exodus 7:7 NASB 1995
What? Wait a minute — that’s when most of us are retired. Yet Moses is hand-picked to lead an epic charge. The truth is, Moses was selected LONG before then. Moses accepted the role of rescuing the Israelites who had lived in Egypt for 430 years. Exodus 12:40
Fast forwarding again… Moses has completed his assignment in Egypt. The massive caravan of Israelites is camped in the area at the base of Mount Horeb, synonymously called Mount Sinai. Father-in-law Jethro enters the scene when he arrives with Moses’ wife and two sons. Moses greets Jethro and is still radiant over what transpired in Egypt. After Moses shares his testimony, Jethro grasps the epic story of deliverance and proclaims, “Now I know that the Lord is greater than all the gods.” Exodus 18:11a
The Lord’s Promise: “Therefore, come now, and I will send you to Pharaoh, so that you may bring My people, the sons of Israel, out of Egypt.” Exodus 3:10
Promise Reinforced: “The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.” Exodus 14:14 The Companion Bible 1999
For You Today: More important than understanding how your life has unfolded is grasping that you can trust God. You can live the life of a changed person. Part of living this change is sharing what happened. This is what Moses did with Jethro. Remember: 1) your testimony has value because you are valuable, and 2) you can trust a God who fights for you.
